This popped up in one of my feeds recently, and I thought it was so cool that I had to share it. Reskate is a Barcelona-based artistic collective/studio formed by María López and Javier de Riba. For a recent street art project called Harreman, a Basque word meaning relationship, the duo painted a series of fantastic murals using photo-luminescent paint that reveals different parts of the murals depending on how much light is falling on them. While some of the murals require user interaction, others have lights on timers that go on and off automatically. According to the project page, “the intention is to try to light up dark corners of cities, both installing new lights and encouraging citizens to interact with the wall, painting with light on it.”
You can pre-order photo-luminescent screen print versions of some of the murals in their shop.
Back in 2012, Bill Wadman and I started a podcast called On Taking Pictures. While it was ostensibly about photography, our conversations were often about anything but. We ended the show in 2018 after 325 weekly episodes. Last month, we brought OTP back…sort of…and the response has been overwhelming. Who knew that after a five-year hiatus, so many of you would not only still be subscribed, but are still interested in listening to a photography show that isn’t really about photography? Thank you so much for the comments, the emails, the DMs, the tweets, and the willingness to see what happens next.
