You might want to set aside some time for this one—and I’m not really sure how to begin to describe it, other than to say I want pretty much everything they make. Cognitive Surplus is the brainchild of Geoff and Kristen Zephyrus and their mission is to “design and build goods that show-off the beauty of science while trying to leave the world just a little better than we found it.” What does that mean? Well, let’s say you’ve been wanting a set of drinking glasses that feature diagrams of the electromagnetic spectrum or the periodic table of the elements or even a stratigraphy core sample. This is where you’ll find them. Or maybe you’re looking for orinthology-themed gifts for a bird-loving friend or a roll of anatomical heart washi tape. They have those too. If you’re a fan of math and science, birds and bugs—or know someone who is—get your credit card ready. A couple of my favorite items are the "Optics + Sight" coffee mug and the Experiment series of dot grid notebooks.
