I first learned about the brilliant artist Olafur Eliasson in 2019 from a Netflix show called Abstract: The Art of Design, which is a fantastic show that profiles a bunch of really interesting people across art and design. Olafur’s work combines design, sculpture, architecture, and a Willy Wonka-esque curiosity and sense of wonder at how he sees the world. I can’t recommend the episode highly enough. Recently, Art21 shared a clip from a terrific 2018 episode of their series Art in the Twenty-First Century that features Olafur. If you’re not familiar with Art21, I encourage you to set aside some time to browse their YouTube channel. Whether you’re an artist yourself or just a fan, there’s a ton of really great material there worth watching. If you want more from Olafur, be sure to check out his website and the interview he did at the Tate Modern for his show In Real Life.

I saw Eliasson’s retrospective at Tate Modern in 2019 and up until that point, I wasn’t that familiar with his work. Seeing his work in person blew my mind, particularly ’Beauty’. I have to admit being a total fan girl now.
This is the first time I’ve heard of Olafur...thanks for the intro! What I find interesting is that most or all of the work requires the passage of time to fully experience the piece, a nice contrast to other restless modes of viewing art.
